The first satellite TV signal was sent from Europe to North America via the Telstar satellite in 1962. This is the opening of the new era of television. Then in 1965, the first commercial satellite, Early Bird, was launched. However the satellite TV reception was only began in U.S. in 1980.

Early satellite television system was very expensive. It cost users anywhere between $2000 to $10000. All of the equipment was bulky and complicated.
